Hi there, I’m Destin and I have recently rejoined Utrecht to manage our Berkeley store. Never fear, if you miss John or Mary they are still with Utrecht on the other side of the bay. Our Berkeley location has been here for 20 years and I feel very lucky to be a part of both an amazing tradition and world renowned artistic community.
Utrecht is unique as an art supply store as we didn’t begin as retailers, but rather importers of fine linens. Our founders (the Gulamerian brothers of Brooklyn NY) then saw a need for highest quality artist paints at prices that artists could afford. Eventually the brothers decided to open retail venues to make our brand more accessible to everybody (and Berkeley was the first city chosen on this coast!). To this day we manufacture our paints in the same Brooklyn facility and take great pride in our brand.
Utrecht is truly a company run by and for artists and we take our role in art very seriously. Our paints have the highest pigment loads availible and are triple milled for a very smooth handle. Come find out why professional artists world wide choose Utrecht paint (here’s a hint; highest quality paints at the lowest prices) and if you aren’t in love then we’ll give you a full refund. The only thing you stand to lose is the misconception that price = quality.
Lexi is the assistant manager and has been with us for more than four years. Her heart and passion are with printmaking, but she’s also obscessed with learning and art in general. A graduate of CCA, she is a wealth of knowledge and always happy to help.
Ryan has been with us for over a year. His primary area of interest is in gouache and acrylic painting and drawing. Questions about pen and ink, Manga or wizards, he’s your guy.
Alan you may recognize from Amsterdam Art as he was there for several years and now he’s been with us more than two. He too is an art school grad and an awesome painter. If he doesn’t know the answer to your question he’s poised with “The Artist’s Handbook” in hand happy to figure it out.
Corey is the picture of Berkeley enthusiasm and is currently enrolled in several art classes at BCC. He’ll be just as happy to help you with painting questions as with musical questions and the art he creates usually combines both.
I tend to work 3-D with different types of clays, mixed media and fibers. Dabbling in painting, drawing and performance occupy my whims. I love to assist customers and always look forward to learning something new, so if I don’t have an answer for you looking it up makes me happy.
Are you daunted by Berkeley parking? We are lucky to have the Golden Bear Parking Garage less than a block from our store with the entrance off Bonita (one block east of Martin Luther King Jr Way). I’d be happy to pay for your first hour’s parking with a purchase of $25 or more! Never fear parking at our store again!
